March 2016 in Europe is filled with a load of events to suit everyone's taste, but our favourites definitely are:
Spain: Fallas De Valencia |
Location: Valencia Date's: 15 March – 19 March 2016 Valencia's Fallas festivities are sure to blow your socks off this March. And we we mean that almost literally, because the sparks that form an important part of this fiesta are sure to get you excited. Over a period of 5 days, locals and visitors enjoy a non stop party full of parades, pageants and nice firework displays. All of which builds the crowds up to the Fallas festivities extraordinary final night. The city plummets into pitch black as the city lights are turned off and all of a sudden the city is filled with a overwhelming glow as hundreds of massive paper-maché caricatures stuffed with fireworks across the entire city are set on fire. And so Fallas de Valencia fittingly goes out with a great big memorable boom. Key events:At Fallas de Valencia there are not just a few but many fantastic events happening over the 5 days of this event. But the ones that you should most definitely not miss are: La Mascleta The Final Evening: As you may have guessed, the final evening at Fallas de Valencia is undoubtedly one of the biggest events throughout the entire festival. Below are just 2 reasons why: The Fire Parade: At 7pm on the final evening of festivities, Valencia's streets between Colon street and Porta de la Mar square come to life as the Cabalgata del Fuego/Fire parade makes its way through the area. This amazing celebration of fire marks the grand final of Fallas de Valencia. Your chance to enjoy and immerse yourself in a mix of colour, costumes floats, rockets, gunpowder, plenty of music and street performances as the city marks the end of this spectacular celebration of fire and honour's the symbol of the fiesta’s spirit. La Cremà: This is certainly the climax of this event. As midnight strikes on the 19th March, the fallas which have formed a key part of the festival up until now are burnt in the form of massive bonfires filled with fireworks. All of which is known to the locals as La Cremà or the Burning to you and I. These bonfires are the reason the events is called fallas (torches) as without the fallas the playing with fire throughout the festival is would not be possible. The heat of these bonfires as well as power and beauty of the fireworks within these fallas is sure to leave you with amazing memories of This years Fallas de Valencia. |

Location: Vrontados Date's: 18 March – 30 April 2016 (to be confimred) An Interrail trip to the Greek town of Vrontados this Easter could make this year’s festivities quite memorable. Yes, the name may sound a little dangerous but we assure you it is not. For over a month this little town on the Island of Chios is taken over by this event which has become a well recognised Island tradition.
It is definitly a great way to enjoy the values of Easter but with just a small fun modern twist. |
