The last Wednesday of August this year marks the start of another day when Bunol is turned into a destination where hundreds of adventure and fun lovers come armed with tomatoes to immerse them self in a sea of red mush , with one simple aim – to have as much fun as they can! So why not be one of them?

Palo Jabón- The Greasy Pole

Palo Jabon at La Tomatina is the events that helps kick of the festivities.  So what is Palo Jabon? Well to you and me it may be known as the greasy pole. And what is the point of it you ask? To see  who will be able to mark the start of the fun tomato fight by climbing up a rather large greasy pole to get their hands on the chunk of pork waiting patiently at the top whilst down on the ground the atmosphere starts to heat up with music, a wild crowed and plenty of excitement, which is what La Tomatina is all about.

But imagine a rather large greasy pole which you have to climb to get the pork and we are sure you can understand what we mean when we say it really is not that easy. But if you think you can prove us wrong then we say make sure your Interrail your way to La Tomatina this summer, have some fun and do just that. 
 

The Tomato Fight:

Yes, this is indeed what La Tomatina is all about.  Once the greasy pole has been climbed and the pork has been dropped at the crack of dawn the real fun begins. A water shot is fired and the beginning of the real shenanigans - the tomato fight is marked. This is when trucks full of tomatoes start rolling in and the excitement of the crowd starts to rise even more. 

Come around 11 am the water shot is heard and the crowd goes absolutely wild as the tomato commotion begins and a few hours of great fun are guaranteed. Thousands of people, 4 tonnes of tomatoes and a fun fight that does not stop until the last tomato is dropped are what makes La Tomatina so amazing.

So if you like a great atmosphere, a bit of fun and memorable experiences then La Tomatina should definitely have a spot on your Interrail destinations list.
