Keeping in line with the spirit of Interrail, train travel in Spain is nice and relaxed, as the railway lines are quite well connected! You can just hop on and off most of the local and regional trains.
But to give you piece of mind, we recommend that you make sure you understand everything there is to know about seat reservations and supplements on trains in Spain before you travel.

We would recommend reservations, if you are intending to use any of the following trains in Spain:

High-Speed trains: Reservations are required on the Alaris, Altaria, Alvia, Arco, Ave, Euromed, TRD and Talgo high-speed trains.

Diurno and InterCity: Reservations are recommended on these intercity trains.

Night trains: Reservations are required for the Estrella and Trenhotel night trains

International (night) trains: Reservations are compulsory on most international (night) trains to and from Spain.
Reservations are not required for:
The following trains in Spain do not need you to make a reservation:
- Regional and inter-regional trains: Reservations are not required on these trains.
- Cercanías, commuter trains: Reservations are not required on these trains.
