Czech Republic Railway Information


Trains in the Czech Republic are operated by CD(Czech Railways) who provide an efficient train service to almost every part of the country. All Czech cities, towns and most villages have train stations, and are interconnected to make rail travel convenient and easy for you.


Train Service

There are several different categories of trains in the Czech Republic, these are:

  • Osobní (Os):  Local train that stops everywhere (short: Os)
  • SpÄ›šný (Sp) : Local train, usually skips little villages (Sp)
  • Rychlík (R): Regional train, stops in major towns, commonly used for longer distances (R)
  • Expres (Ex): Faster regional train (Ex)
  • Intercity, Eurocity (IC, EC): Pretty modern longer distance train, stops in major cities only
  • Supercity (Pendolino): Fastest new trains, operates between biggest cities ( reservation compulsory)

Stations in the Czech Republic:

Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic is the main railway centre of the country.

The most important train stations in the country are:

Hlavní nádrazí (main station): This is the biggest station and is as a result also know as the main station.

Services available at this station include:

  • Ticket offices
  • A train information centre
  • Prague information service

Nádrazí Holesovice (Holesovice station): This station  is usually the final stop for trains from Berlin, Germany and other international destinations to the north.

Both of these train stations are also serviced by line C of the Prague city metro system.


International train connections

International train connections to and from the Czech Republic are also very good.

Direct international connections are available between the Czech Republic and the following countries:

  • Austria
  • Germany
  • Slovakia
  • Switzerland
  • Poland
  • Hungary
