Keeping in line with the spirit of InterRail, train travel in in the United Kingdom is easy, efficient and convenient! You can just hop on and off most of the local and regional trains.

But to give you piece of mind, we recommend that you make sure you understand everything there is to know about seat reservations and supplements on trains in the United Kingdom before you travel.


Reservations

Reservations are required for:

We would recommend reservations, if you are intending to use any of the following trains in the United Kingdom:

  • International trains: With your InterRail Pass you can receive a special discounted fare for travel on Eurostar trains to France and Belgium (subject to availability). Please check www.eurostar.com for the latest fares.

  • Overnight trains: It is advisable to make reservations for any overnight train journey before you travel. 

Reservations are not required for:

The following trains in the United Kingdom not need you to make a reservation:

  • Domestic trains: Reservations are generally not required for domestic trains in the United Kingdom.

A My InterRail Tip:

We would also recommend reservations if you intend to travel out of London on Friday or Sunday evenings.

Supplements

Supplements are only required on sleeper trains in Great Britain. All other trains service do not require any supplements.
