But to give you piece of mind, we recommend that you make sure you understand everything there is to know about seat reservations and supplements on trains in Switzerland before you travel.

We would recommend reservations, if you are intending to use any of the following trains in Switzerland:

  • International trains: Reservations are required for most international trains to and from Switzerland.

  • Night trains: Reservations are required for night trains in Switzerland.

  • Glacier Express: Reservations are required for these local scenic trains.

  • Bernina Express: Reservations are required for these local scenic trains.

  • InterCity and ICN trains: Reservations are recommended for these trains during the busy summer season (May-September).

  • Domestic trains: Reservations are not required for most domestic trains in Switzerland.
